The Jeffries LLC began with the purchase of the Mondry Cleaners business by Virginia Jeffries in 1963. Mrs. Jeffries made a "cold call" to Mr. Mondry for the purchase of his laundry processing plant at 769 Fisher Rd. Fortunately, Mr. Mondry in the weeks just prior to her call, had concluded a new union labor agreement and was unhappy. The negotiations and sale were quickly consummated.
Mapp & Marr architects and Al Thomas builder were engaged to accomplish Mrs. Jeffries vision of converting the Mondry factory to become both retail and commercial properties. The complex was name the Fisher Mews to reflect the conversion of garage to office space as frequently done in London England.
Through subsequent years, Mrs. Jeffries was able to add other properties. The small office building at the corner of Fisher and Maumee was completed by delivering the purchase agreement to the owner on the golf course of the County Club of Detroit. At the height of development the Jeffries LLC owned one residential unit, one restaurant and one retail space.
The Fisher Mews was built in 1939. It is located in the middle of the block across from Grosse Pointe South High School. It was converted from a laundry processing and garage facility to retail and professional office spaces, thus the name “Mews”. The complex provides approximately 11.500 sq/ft of mixed use office and retail space and one 1200 sq/ft apartment. The various offices provide 320 to 1200 sq/ft of space. There is adjacent parking of tenants and guests.
